Strengthening Economic Management for Inclusive Growth

The GEDI Program (Strengthening Economic Management for Inclusive Development) supports the national dialogue on inclusive growth in Mozambique by carrying out research, analysis and the strategic outreach, to strengthen the Government of Mozambique's capacity for fiscal and budgetary management, through technical assistance and capacity building to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Objectives

GEDI's overarching objective is to support the national dialogue on inclusive growth through research, analysis and strategic outreach to strengthen Mozambique's fiscal management capacity. It includes four components, each with its specific sub-objectives and expected results.

Team

The GEDI program is led by the World Bank's Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment (MTI) Global Practice. It is implemented using in-house staff, individual consultants (national and international), and sub-contracted firms.

Program Duration

The activities of the Program started in 2019 and will continue until 2024. The program is a continuation of previous support to the government of Mozambique on Strengthening Public Investment Management, Debt and Fiscal Risk, and is in line with the objectives of the country's Public Finance Management Strategy.

Partners and Budget

The Program is financed by FCDO Mozambique and is implemented through a trust fund managed by the World Bank. It is implemented in partnership with the Government of Mozambique, namely the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

O orçamento total do projeto é de cerca de £5.6 milhões (US$7milhões) para um período de cinco anos. A alocação efetiva por componente do Programa depende do ritmo de implementação das atividades e do progresso das reformas. O Programa é sujeito a  revisões anuais conjuntas.

The Program is demand driven and responsive to implementation. Its areas of focus and work plans are annually discussed and agreed with the relevant entities. The plans are flexible and can accommodate emerging needs during the year. Annual participatory planning is conducted with the relevant Directorates of the Ministry of Finance. The Program works, as needed and applicable, with other actors in the inclusive growth space.
